May Newsletter 2025

As concert secretary, the first 3 months of the year are always quite quiet. The band spends January-March busily preparing for our regional contest and we don’t typically have any other engagements in the community.

However, with that now behind us, the band’s calendar starts to get more populated with other gigs and events. First up will be our return to Marlow to support the St George’s Day Parade. This is always a nice busy event to play at, giving the opportunity for us to play a little further afield to a different crowd. The Wokingham May Fayre on Monday 5th May is a regular event we play at and we’re looking forward to returning again this year.

And then we will have our summer concert at All Saints Church, Wokingham, on 6th July which promises to be one of the highlights of our year. We’re already starting to prepare for this and hope to see many of you there.

And one new event during the summer will see the band taking a trip into central London. We have been invited to play in Westminster Abbey Gardens on 13th August as part of their summer band concert series. It will be a real privilege to play at such a prestigious venue and we can’t wait!

Dates for your Diary:

  • Monday 5th May - Wokingham May Fayre (Elms Field) - 1.15pm-2pm and 3pm-3.45pm

  • Saturday 28th June - Armed Forces Day (Peach Place) - From 11am

  • Sunday 6th July - Summer Concert (details below) - 7pm

  • Wednesday 13th August - Westminster Abbey Gardens - 12-30pm-2pm

A word from our MD John Watts

In our last newsletter I wrote about a busy Christmas and autumn period we had coming up.
But how did it go?

An introduction to St Sebastian's from our newest player Solo Trombone Prinyar Boon

To be honest, I’d never envisaged that I’d ever be a Solo Trombone player in a first section Brass Band.
